Match report: Bala Town 3, Holyhead Hotspur 4

It was a return to Welsh Cup action for the Lakesiders on Saturday and there was anticipation of a good cup run to produce some confidence in a team suffering from a poor run of form. This anticipation was given more impetus when Bala took the lead after only 8 minutes with a Tom Kelly goal from short range. It was however downhill again from this moment and the home side gifted Holyhead an equaliser on 16 minutes from a Jamie Jones shot which squeezed in at the near post. …

Match report: Bala Town 2, Buckley Town 3

Back at Maes Tegid after dropping 2 points through a late Caersws equaliser last Saturday there was anticipation of a bounce back to winning ways as we welcomed Buckley Town on a cold Friday evening. The excuse of the injury list is now monotonous but we still have 5 senior players missing from the starting line up and the squad must step up to the mark to start amassing a reasonable points total. The home side started well with continuous pressure on the visitors goal but despite this the visitors …

Match report: Caersws 3, Bala Town 3

Bala travelled to Caersws for the first time since 2010 for a competitive fixture on a glorious early autumn afternoon. They welcomed the return of goalkeeper Rhys Williams but still had 5 other senior players out with injury. There was an early opportunity for the home side after only 3 minutes following a corner which was headed on and a shot flashed over the bar. It was another very competitive start to a match but Bala were offering very little in attacking mode. The home side were pressing and a …

Match report: Bala Town 2, Cefn Albion 1

Bala’s first foray into the NEWFA Senior Cup for 18 years ended with a 2.1 win over lower league rivals at Maes Tegid on Tuesday evening but the scoreline did little justice to the domination of the match by the home side. Bala welcomed the return of goalkeeper Rhys Williams to the starting line up but were still without another 5 injured players. Despite possession and territorial dominance in the first half the break came with the match scoreless. The home side missed 2 golden opportunities and struck the post …

Match report: Bala Town 2, Mold Alex 4

High flying Mold Alexandra were the visitors to Maes Tegid last Saturday and produced an excellent performance to deservedly beat a dismal home showing by the Lakesiders. There is still some excuse for the Bala performance with 6 regular first team squad players missing again through injury but that injury list does not look like improving for a good few weeks and the squad must improve if we are to stay challenging at the top of the Novira Cymru North. The home side began the match well and went ahead …

Match report: Penrhyncoch 0, Bala Town 1

Bala travelled to Cae Baker on Tuesday evening for a league fixture which had to try to exorcise the poor performance of their last match in Denbigh. However it was the injury list that once again was the focus of attention before the match with 6 of the squad unavailable and a further blow when Tomas Jones had a car accident on his way to the game. He is thankfully uninjured but it left Bala with only 3 on the bench. Bala played down the slope in the first half …

Match report: Denbigh Town 5, Bala Town 2

Bala travelled to Central Park for another important Novira Cymru North league fixture on Friday evening. There was a return to the squad of absentees Nathan Burke and Ross White whilst Kyle Harrison returned to the bench after injury. It was however a disastrous start for the visitors when a calamitous own goal on 9 minutes saw the home side take the lead. Despite all Bala’s best efforts they found it difficult to take control of the match against a hugely committed home side. The long Bala injury list again …

Match report: Porthmadog 1, Bala Town 2

Bala travelled to Porthmadog on Saturday to face another difficult away fixture on a pitch that had obviously suffered from the summer drought and still remained hard underfoot. Once again the squad was severely depleted with 6 senior players unavailable through absence and injury and the 2 late transfer window signings were forced into immediate action. Within the first 10 minutes the situation worsened further when Jake Phillips had to be helped off with a worrying ankle injury and he was replaced by Charlie Fisher. New signing Aron Williams went …

Match report: Bala Town 0, Newtown 1

Bala slipped to their first defeat of the season on Bank holiday Monday when a strong and resilient Newtown side snatched all 3 points with a second half winner. The Home side were on the back foot before the match started with 7 players sidelined on the injury list forcing Fish and Val into a number of changes to the starting line up. Despite this the home side dominated early possession and a number of half chances were squandered when Tomas Jones had a shot tipped over and Emmanuel Osilaja …

Match report: Rhyl 1879 1, Bala Town 3

It was a trip to “Sunny Rhyl” last Friday evening for another hugely significant Novira Cymru North League fixture. The Hops and Barley Community Stadium holds many memories for Bala as it hosted 4 of our historic European matches and produced 2 memorable wins during that time. This match however was a completely different challenge and the visitors arrived with another sizeable injury list adding to the difficulty facing a new look home side. Bala began the match in lively fashion and Tom Kelly’s neat dribbling inside the box saw …

Match report: Bala Town 3, Gresford Athletic 0

On a lovely summer’s evening we welcomed Gresford to Maes Tegid for another important Novira Cymru North league fixture. Bala’s injury list had already started to grow with 4 senior players missing and this concern was further compounded when Jamie Cumming had to be substituted in the first minute of the game. His hamstring injury will add to Steve Fisher’s problems. The first half was dominated by the home side who controlled play and dominated possession. Tom Kelly forced a fine save off the visitor’s keeper with a curling free …

Match report: Bala Town 2, Ruthin Town 1

The Club’s first home fixture in the Novira Cymru North last Friday evening saw local rivals Ruthin Town visit Maes Tegid. It also heralded the return of Colin Caton to Bala as Manager of Ruthin which added a degree of interest to the fixture. Colin was at the helm in Bala for 22 years! The Club also opened it’s Fanzone bar area for the first time on the evening and it proved a huge success with the large crowd that attended this much awaited fixture. The match started with the …
